We live in a talented generation. You probably know someone who does hair or make up, makes clothes, takes pictures, plays an instrument, gives great speeches, sings, does spoken word, and the list goes on. You may be one or more of those people. This post is for the people who feel like they don’t necessarily have talent, or reached their fullest potential. Because I’ve felt like that for a lot of my life. I felt like all I had was my brain, and that was cool and all, but I didn’t have anything tangible. Nothing that I could say that I was really good at.
The difference between me then and now is my decision to stop doubting myself and just go for it. I realized that I have so much untapped potential, and it’ll never get revealed unless I put myself in situations that force it to flourish. For example, I remember the first time I tried to put Senegalese twists in my hair. They only lasted for a week before they just had to go (tragic). And now I’m able to do anything I want to my hair! My most recent ventures are photography and blogging–2 things I didn’t see myself doing 6 months ago that now bring much joy to my life. I was inspired by friends and the ideas whispered in the back of my mind, but I kept silencing them. I just used school as an excuse, which is so easy to do these days.
God created each of us for many purposes. Some are clearly revealed to us. But sometimes He’s the voice in your minding suggesting something new that you never thought you’d be good at. Trust it. He’s placed people in your life to inspire you, support you, and catch you when you fall. All the greats started somewhere, and we all want to be great right?? Who are we to shrink ourselves when there’s so much God-given potential just waiting to be tapped into!? He smiles when we use the gifts he’s blessed us with. As long as we use them to glorify him and further his kingdom of course. So, if you feel like you don’t have any talent, keep your spiritual ears open, and don’t be afraid to say yes when the opportunity presents itself.
